Footnotes

  • The body of this Mk1 Mini late entry is claimed to be still largely original, although it has benefited from the renewal of A-panels as well as both inner and outer sills. Following completion of this re-commissioning programme, which has only taken place during the last year, all opening panels were removed from the shell, also the engine and transmission unit were taken out, to facilitate a truly comprehensive re-spray in 2-pack inside and out, with particular attention taken to repainting engine bay and boot area. All door and window sealing rubbers were renewed and a new laminated screen fitted. The under-bonnet area has been treated to Hardura felt as originally found on Deluxe Minis of this period. Although the 848cc BMC A Type engine has been kept totally standard, we understand engine mountings, hoses and water pump have been changed and a rebuilt radiator correct for a Mk1 fitted. It is also claimed that many electrical components were renewed during the refurbishment.
Being a 1966 Mini, the car has period-correct hydrolastic suspension, which results in a very compliant and comfortable ride, says the owner, who reports that the front suspension bushes have been renewed as have the bump stops all round and all four tyres. The brakes were overhauled with shoes and cylinders front and back, copper pipes and rubber hoses all renewed and hydraulic systems refilled with silicon brake and clutch fluid. With the exception of a new carpet set and new seat diaphragms to restore ride comfort, the interior is apparently still original right down to the seat belts, which are said to be in good condition.
With the car reportedly having been in dry-storage for over twenty years, the 23,000 mileage displayed is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total for the car from new. The rebuild has been most carefully carried out, he says, to replicate as closely as possible the original 1966 specification of a Mk1 Mini. The first green log book is present as are a current V5 registration document and MOT certificate valid until late January, the historic vehicle eligible tax disc being current until next March.
