Lot 470
c.1946 Ariel 500cc
Frame no. AP 1767 Engine no. TC 381

Sold for £ 1,840 (US$ 2,598) inc. premium
c.1946 Ariel 500cc
Frame no. AP 1767
Engine no. TC 381
Purchased by the vendor in 1983 from the VMCC's marque specialist, this overhead-valve Ariel consists of a frame dating from 1946 and an engine made in 1952. The presence of competition number plates suggests that the machine has been used for some kind of motorcycle sport, though given the road-type tyres and lack of ground clearance, it cannot have been very demanding. Modifications include coil ignition, an Amal Monobloc carburettor, open primary drive, steering damper, alloy engine plates, non-stock fuel tank, etc, etc. Sold strictly as viewed, the machine is presented in 'fair' condition: the engine turning over and the gears selecting. There are no documents with this Lot, which is sold without reserve.
