  • Armstrong Siddeley was created in 1919 by the fusion of the mighty Armstrong Whitworth engineering combine and the Coventry based Siddeley-Deasy company. Introduced in 1927, the firm's 20hp model was built in both 'short' and 'long' versions, the latter's lengthy (129", 132" from 1932) wheelbase making it a favourite with the carriage trade. A 2,872cc overhead-valve six-cylinder engine was used up to 1932 when it was superseded by a similar 3,190cc unit, four-speed Wilson pre-selector transmission and coil ignition being standardised at the same time. In 1936 the engine was enlarged yet again, on this occasion to 3,670cc, and the model re-designated '20/25'. Two chassis lengths were on offer: 123.5" for owner-drive coachwork and 132" for more formal designs, and with 85bhp on tap the shorter cars were good for nearly 80mph. A total of 888 20/25s had been made when war halted production in 1939.
    Originally a saloon, this Armstrong-Siddeley 20/25hp has been converted into drophead coupé configuration for use by the vendor's wedding hire business. The car last ran circa five years ago at time of purchase and is believed to be in generally good condition, although the hood frame is only partly installed and the soft-top conversion requires finishing. The vehicle is sold strictly as viewed. No reserve.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge what is known as a Buyer's Premium. Buyer's Premium on all Automobilia lots will adhere to Bonhams group policy:

25% up to £50,000 of hammer price,
20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,
and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.

Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalog.
