Coachwork by Willy van der Plas

Chassis no. 61580

Of right-hand drive configuration like many pre-war French automobiles, this 13CV four-cylinder Panhard et Levassor was acquired by the current vendor in 1991. The sleeve valve-engined Panhard was very quiet and flexible, and in its day was synonymous with luxury and comfort. This one's engine is in good working order, having been overhauled by Ets. Coleti in 1992. Only the discerning and wealthy could afford such a motor car and this example is fitted with bespoke convertible landaulet coachwork by Paris-based Willy Van Den Plas, a member of the famous Belgian coachbuilding family, which is finished in ivory with matching hood and wheels. Very original, this coachwork is also highly versatile and can be used in three different configurations: entirely closed like a limousine; with the driver's compartment only opened; or with the hood fully retracted and the windows wound down into the body. The interior is trimmed in leather and features cabinetwork of rose wood marquetry and burl elm, the passenger compartment being equipped with cupboards and a dressing table shelf. Fitted equipment includes an Auster screen (six sections); electric headlamps and sidelights; acetylene spotlight; luggage rack and cases; and mahogany tool chest and running boards.
Offered with Carte Grise de Collection, his unique and remarkably well preserved motor car has provided its owner with the opportunity to participate in many prestigious historic rallies including Paris - Deauville, Paris - Rheims, Troyes 48 Hours, Panhard Centenary, Le Mans, Montlhéry, etc.
