Footnotes

The partial label to one stand almost certainly indicates that this outer case was used in the workshops of Leopoldo Franciolini (1840-1922), the famous Florentine forger of many types of instruments, specifically of Italian harpsichords. Franciolini was finally arrested for his crimes in 1910 and given a term of imprisonment, later reduced to a fine.
