Contained within a barrel fronted glazed cabinet naturalistically painted on a blue backboard, inscribed 'Yellow (male), 29lbs, caught in Loch Stennes, March 1889' and further inscribed to label 'Caught by Johnny Lyon on a night line baited with worm', 110cm wide.

  • This fantastic trout stood as the British Record for a wild trout caught in British Fresh Water for over 100 years up to March 2002 when it was beaten by a Ferrox Brown trout in Loch Awe at 31lbs 12ozs. Loch Stennes is the main loch in Orkney and produced a number of spectacular fish over the years. This trout has been mentioned in two books, by J G Millais 'The Autobiography of the Naturalist, 1919, page 25' and by P D Malloch 'Life History and Habits of the Salmon, 1910, page 224'.

27.5% on the first £10,000 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
