Footnotes

  • This is believed to be the very first programme in which the Beatles appear in print. The event was organised by local guitarist Jim Gretty, who also worked part-time in Hessy's music shop in Liverpool and had sold John a guitar in 1957. The Beatles were a rather incongruous inclusion in a line-up featuring trad jazz, country and western and operatic arias.
