A Victorian silver-mounted brown glass decanter,
maker's mark of H.W. & L. Dee overstruck with retailers mark of Frederick Jenner & Fabian Knewstub, London 1880, incuse stamped on stopper "Patent" and rim stamped "Jenner & Knewstub 33 St James's & 66 Jermyn St Rt"
of the decanter of "Colonial form" and the silver mount with deep scalloped fringing, the high domed stopper applied with Toby and the thumb-piece modelled as Mr Punch, height 23.5cm.

  • H.W & L Dee (1867 - 1880), one of the leading Victorian Novelty silver manufacturers supplied Jenner & Knewstub of St James's & Jermyn Street with a number of silver or silver-mounted wares; ranging from silver-mounted glass bottles, clocks, note pads and candlesticks.

    However, it is interesting to note that both Jenner & Knewstub and H.W. Dee each registered on 7th June 1879 the following decanters; Jenner & Knewstub the following "brown glass decanter with nickel patent stopper cast Mr Punch and Toby", P.O.D.R. and H.W. Dee "two silver-mounted clear glass decanters with "Patent" necks and stoppers, one in the form of Mr Punch & Toby and the other as Judy", P.O.D.R.

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
