the dial possibly 18th century
the circular enamel dial surmounted by a terrestrial globe and flanked by a female figure representing "l'Etude", seated in classical drapery reading a book, the stepped base with an interlaced flower frieze, on toupie feet, the dial with moonphase inscribed Manière/Paris, 66cm wide, 20cm deep, 45cm high (25.5in wide, 7.5in deep, 17.5in high).

  • This clock is an example of the popular model called "pendule à la Geoffrin" , the original model with a figure representing "l'Etude" was reputedly acquired in 1757 by the marquis de Marigny , with a movement by Musson, through Madame Geoffrin. A similar clock can be seen at Waddesdon Manor.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
