The Holy Bible, King James' Great "She" Bible, black letter, double column, general title dated 1613 and New Testament title dated 1611, both within wide woodcut pictorial borders, woodcut head- and tail-pieces and initials, calendar and almanack printed in red and black, with Speed's Genealogies and double-page engraved map, 'Judas' in Matthew xxvi 36 corrected in manuscript, some ink smudges and mainly light staining and browning, some headlines trimmed, a few tears and frayed edges (occasionallly affecting text), title on guard and detached (with next few leaves), lacking final leaf, contemporary ownership inscription on verso of title ("This Bible was bought in ye yeare 1615. George Smythe and William Bootham..."), later signatures of "Henry Watts" and inscription dated 1769 at foot of title (largely obliterated), eighteenth century panelled calf, worn, covers detached, spine defective, preserved in later limp morocco cover [Herbert 319; STC 2224; cf.   • THE "GREAT SHE BIBLE" OR SECOND FOLIO EDITION OF KING JAMES' BIBLE, WITH A CONTEMPORARY OWNERSHIP INSCRIPTION. The translators, who numbered about fifty, were divided into committees based at Oxford, Cambridge and London. They were instructed to take the Bishops Bible as their basis, and consult those of Tyndale, Coverdale, Matthew, Whitchurch and the Geneva version. "From about the middle of the seventeenth century on to the appearance of the Revised Bible of 1881-5, King James' version reigned without rival" (Herbert).

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
