Arabic manuscript on paper, 384 leaves, 14 lines to the page written in clear naskhi script in black ink, with diacritics and vowel points in black and red, on gold ground throughout, margins ruled in blue, red and gold, sura headings in white within a gold panel ruled in orange, gold roundels with orange dots between verses, two double-pages of illumination at beginning and end, occasional flaking, waterstaining confined to upper margin, not intruding into text, otherwise in good condition, 19th Century morocco gilt by Zaehnsdorf with stamped central medallions, cornerpieces and borders decorated with arabesques and floral motifs
287 x 160 mm.

    Good quality Deccani Qur'ans of this date, and in good condition, are very rare.

    The binding: Joseph Zaehnsdorf (1816-1886) was born in Budapest. In 1842 he founded his bookbinding firm in London, becoming one of the most famous high-quality custom binders in Europe.

27.5% on the first £10,000 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
