Untitled signed and dated 'Akrithakis 91' (lower left) oil on panel 81 x 122 cm.
Footnotes
Developing a highly personal style in the spirit of pop art and automatic surrealist writing, Alexis Akrithakis showed a predilection for striking colours and bold shapes, endowing his work with a dreamy quality and childlike wonder. Art historian Maria Kotzamani, who attributes this work to the artist's last period, maintains that Akrithakis, besides being a charismatic image maker, was above all a truly great poet. "Poetry flows through his work like blood through veins."1
