the hull built up from the solid in lifts in ¼ in.=1 ft. scale, with a painted red bottom, white waterline and black topsides, rudder and twin propellers, the deck with single funnel, mast and deck details including: stern docking station and steering gear, upper deck with bench seating, ventilators and skylights, (4) lifeboats on davits, open bridge with engine telegraphs and ships bells. Displayed on a pair of turned brass pedestals, within a glazed mahogany display case.
76 x 31 x 19 in. (193 x 79 x 48 cm.) cased.

Footnotes

  • The S.S. Seaford was built by the Clyde Shipping and Shipbuilding of Dunbarton, Scotland for Denny Brothers. She was launched in April 1894 and began work for the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry service. The following year while navigating through a thick Channel fog, she was hit by the French cargo ferry S.S. Lyon which was owned by the same company. The Seaford sank within twenty minutes 25 miles off Newhaven however all her passengers and crew were rescued by the Lyon whioch was also badly damaged.
