1932 Triumph 148cc Model XO
Registration no. NAS 308
Frame no. 7023
Engine no. 954
The favourable duty rates for under 150cc machines encouraged many manufacturers to develop machines for this class. Triumph's first had been the Villiers-engined two-stroke Model X, which was followed for 1933 by the four-stroke XO. The latter featured an inclined overhead-valve engine and three-speed gearbox, which were housed in a conventional duplex-loop frame. Lightweight, economical and with a top speed of 47mph, it should have been just what commuters wanted but lasted for only a couple of years. We are advised that 'NAS 308' has been the subject of gradual re-commissioning and that it starts easily and runs and rides very well, with only the front brake remaining to be sorted out to bring it up to MoT standard. This rare Depression-era ultra-lightweight is offered with fresh MoT/Tax and Swansea V5.
