Fauna Hawaiiensis, or the Zoology of the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Isles. Cambridge: University Press, 1899-1913. 3 volumes. Folio (31.5 cm). With 80 plates, maps, and views, some colored. Recent half calf over marbled boards, original part wrappers bounds in. First title-page sunned, otherwise very fine.

First edition. The first systematic attempt to record the fauna of the Hawaiian Islands, undertaken by the British Association for the Advancement of Science. Forbes notes that the book “was printed on highly acidic paper with the result that the pages of most copies are now browned and brittle,” whereas this copy is mostly pristine. Forbes 5034.
