A fine factory cased and Gustave Young engraved Colt Model 1851 Navy percussion revolver
Serial no. 29705 for 1853 (with a dot on the barrel lug, frame, triggerguard, butt and cylinder), .36 caliber. Blued, casehardened and silver-plated finish. 7 1/2 inch barrel. Finely engraved in No. 2 style with leafy scrollwork, the left side of the barrel lug incorporating a cornucopia. Engraved screw heads. Frame hand engraved Colts/Patent. Deluxe figured walnut grips. Interior of gripstrap lightly engraved, probably by the original owner, Turnbull. Complete with original burgundy velour-lined factory mahogany case. Accessories include fine Stand of Arms Colts Patent sloping charger flask, the motif stamped on both sides; blued Colt's Patent bullet mold; blued L-shaped tool and unopened blue label Eley Brothers 250 cap tin.
Condition: Excellent. Barrel retains 95% plus dark blue finish. Cylinder with excellent scene and Ormsby signature and retaining perhaps 5-10% blue mixed with brown patina. Strong cylinder pins. Frame and rammer showing smooth, dark grey patina and extremely sharp engraving. Triggerguard/gripstraps with 90% plus silver plating showing some pinpoint bubbling and one area of wear to backstrap. Grip with 90% plus varnish showing one area of wear to left side and some scattered light marks. Case excellent: lid with fine mahogany grain showing a few light marks; lining showing some fading and impression from cylinder. Flask excellent and retaining most lacquered, gilt and fire-blued finish. Combination tool with some thinning to blue. Mold with thinning to blue and numerous small marks.
