Footnotes

  • ex. Collection Whitney Warren, Jr., San Francisco

Whitney Warren, Jr.(1898-1986), son and namesake of the famous New York architect grew up surrounded with the art collections of his parents, both ardent Francophiles. In his colorful life he was a tea planter in Ceylon, an almond rancher in the Sierra foothills of California and a generous patron, in his adopted city, of the San Francisco Fine Arts Museums, Symphony and Opera.

The chairs can be seen in the painting of Whitney Warren sitting in his drawing room on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco.

The image of a bearded dragon is represented on the coats of arms of several noble Roman families, including the Borghese, Boncompagni, and del Drago.
