Wood sculpture of a seated Buddha
12th century
Carved in yose zukuri (joined-block construction) technique and covered in black lacquer with traces of gold, the flowing robes and scarf draped to reveal his torso, with a glass inlaid byokoso, his hair dressed in a high topknot and adorned with a simple corn, his hands in the mudra of "welcome" and "teaching"
