Rhodonite Rough and Faceted
Morro de Mina, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil
A new find of gem rhodonite has redefined the expectations of collectors for this species. Previously, the only possibility of owing a great rhodonite were small crystals from an old mine in Broken Hill, Australiawhich would be extremely expensive by comparison if they were even available. The present exceptionally aesthetic miniature possesses a dramatic and sharp geometric form and an astounding cherry-red color. Composed of several inter-grown crystals it is doubly-terminated, very gemmy and transparent, measuring 5.5 x 2.5 x 1.4cm (2 ¼ x 1 ¼ x 1/2in); together with an oval-cut gem rhodonite, also from Minas Gerais, Brazil, weighing approximately 2.39 carats and measuring 12.0 x 6.3mm.
