1964 Fiat 1500 Cabriolet
Chassis no. 28911
Although 80,000 of Fiat’s 1500cc cabriolet were built, very few nice examples exist today. Plagued by rust problems, most of the cars have disintegrated over time, leaving a shortage of this lively Italian sportscar in the truest sense of the word. Powered by an in-line 1500cc OHC 4-cylinder engine, producing a respectable 80bhp, mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, the car is a treat to drive on twisty roads, yet more than powerful enough to stay with modern traffic at highway speeds. The clean and simple, yet elegant body was designed and built by Pininfarina.

The 1964 example offered here is a true rarity. A very original rust-free two owner from new car showing only 91,000 miles on the odometer. The car was originally purchased on February 12, 1964 by a Mrs. Rita Carroll in Barcelona, Spain. Three years later it went back to Italy for the Mille Miglia In 1992 it was purchased by Stephan Protzen and was driven sparingly by this US owner and lovingly cared for throughout his ownership. With original engine, gearbox, wheels and, unbelievably, the original paint, the car shows well, with nice patina and minor wear and tear. The car was subjected to a sympathetic restoration, including new interior, door seals, glass, soft top, etc. This wonderfully preserved piece of Italian sports car history comes with the original Bill of Sale and a significant amount of original records and documentation, as well as the incredibly rare factory hard top.
