After the great success of the Massimo Tamburini designed 916/996/998 series, a new version of the infamous Desmodromic Ducati L-Twin hotrod was introduced in 2003. Designed by Pierre Terreblanche, the new Ducati 999 model was instantly controversial. No one doubted that this was an extremely high performance motorcycle basically oriented towards the race track, but the styling was radical and differentiated from the beloved 916 series. Some critics hated the new missile-like styling, others loved it, but the fact remained that Terreblanche and Ducati had created one of the most powerful and finest-handling motorcycles in the World. The engine, which seemed to grow power organically over the years, had an incredibly flat torque curve, with power all over the rev range. The chassis was firmly in Ducati trellis-frame tradition, which makes a very light and rigid structure, yet with enough ‘give’ that road conditions are instantly communicated to the rider. Plus, suspension components from Ohlins, fully adjustable and top-of-the-line, ensured rideability was paramount.

From the very first the 999 was successful in the World Superbike Championship, winning the series in 2003/4/6. The ‘Xerox’ 999 model commemorates sponsorship for the Works racing team by the copier company, and is essentially a street-legal race replica. With 150hp at 9750rpm, one could reach 60mph from a stop in only 3 seconds, while holding the throttle wide would shortly see a rider parting the atmosphere at over 170mph.

This 2006 Ducati 999R Xerox has only 118 miles, and is essentially a new motorcycle. It comes complete with the original exhaust, and comes with all original tools and accessories.
