1910 Comet Motorcycle Re-creation
Frame no. 6 1008
The Comet motorcycle was built in Milwaukee, Wisconsin between approximately 1908 and 1910 in a factory located only a few blocks away from Harley-Davidson at 3315 Galena Street.

A lively Comet Motorcycle Club was active in Milwaukee and in 1910 the Comet Motor Company was reported to be re-organising, citing the ‘phenomenal demand’ for its products as necessitating the relocation to larger premises. However after 1910 nothing was heard anymore of the Comet Motor Company. Other Milwaukee motorcycles whose names survive in the historical records are Advance and Feilbach; both those machines were belt-driven, as was the Comet, and all took their inspiration from Harley-Davidson.

This amazing recreation of the original US-made Comet is of undisputed high quality and faithfully replicates what in 1910 was state-of-the-art motorcycle technology. Featuring correct-for-the-period sand-cast engine casings and white button-tread tyres, it speaks eloquently of motorcycling’s pioneering days. Other noteworthy features include the handmade fully sprung leather seat, nickel-plated fittings, leather-lined drive pulleys and 99”-long leather drive belt, while the exhaust muffler incorporates a flap valve that would be closed in town so as not to scare the horses. We are advised that this machine not only looks like but runs like the 1910 Comet. If you have always wanted one of these early motorcycles but could not afford one of the very rare originals, this replica represents the ideal solution. However, it should be noted that although the machine is functional, it does not comply with present-day emissions and safety legislation and thus cannot be registered for, or used on, the road.
