[LAHAINALUNA PRINT.]
Thurston, Eliza(?), after. View of Kailua Hawaii. [Lahaina, Maui, late 1830s.] Panoramic copper-engraving by Kapohoni, 18 1/8 by 5 3/8 inches. Very brief, pale mark in upper right corner, double-matted, framed in a fine koa wood frame to 29 1/2 by 18 inches (not examined outside of frame).
Beautiful panoramic view from the remarkable press at Lahainaluna Seminary. Kepohoni was the most skilled engraver at Lahainaluna. The identity of "Miss Thurston" is not confirmed, but she may be Eliza Thurston, an Australian artist who was married to a commercial traveler.
