A rare San Francisco half-stock percussion target rifle by John Bach
circa 1860
Heavy 27 inch octagonal barrel with seven groove rifling in .54 caliber. Underside of barrel marked F. Hellinghaus. Brass fore-sight. Top flat marked J. Bach/San Francisco Cal. Unmarked lock. Double set triggers. Iron triggerguard, buttplate and patchbox. Walnut half-stock with checkered wrist, German silver wedge escutcheons and pewter fore-end cap. Brass-tipped ramrod.
Condition: Very good. Barrel with grey/brown patina showing some light pitting. Sound wood with scattered light marks.
