A rare George III walnut longcase organ clock
Eardley Norton, St. Johns Street, London, last quarter 18th century
The arched hood with scrolled fret-carved frieze, the silvered brass with silent/strike, seconds dial and date aperture, the eight-day movement striking on a bell, engaging a fifty-four-pipe , weight-driven organ playing on selection one of four tunes.

  • Eardley Norton (w. 1760-1794), was well-known for the Astronomical Clock with four dials created for George III, now part of the Royal Collection, for which he was paid 1,042 pounds sterling. A musical clock was also made for Empress Catherine of Russia.
