A Fine Continental Jewelled And Silver-Gilt Mounted Dagger

With sharply tapering blade of flattened diamond section etched with differing designs of scrolling foliage over most of its length on each side and retaining faint traces of original gilding, the hilt comprising quillons cast, pierced and chased in the round as sea-monsters above an arched basal mount cast and chased with a ribboned design, swelling grip engraved with a trellised design of stylised foliage against a hatched ground and set at the centre with foiled cabochon quartz in imitation of the four gemstones, the top and bottom set with a cabochon lapis lazuli, turquoise, malachite, carnelian and quartz, each on a raised foliate panel, and globular pommel en suite with the grip and set with a cabochon pearl, garnet, quartz and chysophane, each with a scallop shell above and surmounted by a large cabochon lapis lazuli, in original wooden scabbard covered in velvet (plush worn off) with locket and chape, the former cast and chased with a foliated grotesque mask on each side above fixed rings carrying a suspension chain, the latter with strapwork above on each side and strawberry-shaped finial
