A large Hellenistic marble bust of a warrior
Circa 2nd Century B.C.
Probably depicting the Trojan prince Paris, the youthful male head shown turning to gaze dynamically to his right, the wide-open almond eyes finely carved beneath a smooth brow-line, with curly locks of hair emerging from beneath his Phrygian cap, the characteristic top-knop and back-flap now missing, the side-flaps buckled at the back of the head, with a thick muscular neck, the shoulders bare, 17in (43.2cm) high, repaired with some restoration, mounted

    Literature:
    Paris was the infamous lover of Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world. Their elopement began the epic clash between Greece and Troy, as told by the poet Homer. He is usually shown in art wearing a Phrygian cap, here shown buckled back in readiness for battle. Cf. P. 25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
