Footnotes

  • The present lot is remarkably similar to an example in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (Robert Skelton (ed.), The Indian Heritage. Court Life and Arts under Mughal Rule, London, 1982, no. 394). The V & A example was tested and it was found to contain low levels of lead, which points to a Bohemian rather than English origin. During the 18th Century, a considerable trade developed in English glass made for the Eastern market and large quantities were exported to India.
