A Derby vase and cover
Circa 1758.
Of baluster form with scrolling handles issuing flowers and leaves, the cover with a large bud and leaf finial, painted with a vignette of washerwomen on the banks of a river before a house, another figure on a bridge nearby, the reverse with two birds perched on cherry branches, within gilt C-scroll and foliate cartouches, the flared neck with insect panels, all reserved on a mazarine blue ground gilt with moths, 26.5cm high, (restored cracks to lower body and base, minor chips to cover) (2)
