An Attic white-ground lekythos
Attributed to the Bowdoin Painter, circa 475-425 B.C.
The decoration drawn in dark umber strokes on a cream painted ground, showing the winged Nike, wearing a draped chiton, her wings arched behind, her hair dressed in a kekryphalos, wearing a hoop earring and leaning forward to perform a libation, her left hand holding a kylix, pouring liquid into a fiery cauldron, the flames heightened with crimson, set on a low altar with a band of ovolo around the top, a concentric disk in the field, linked palmettes on the shoulder, a band of meander below, rays on the base of the neck, with an in-turned funnel mouth and pad base, 11½in (29.3cm) high, some restoration and repainting
