George Evelyn who purchased Wotton Manor, Surrey in 1579, perfected the manufacture of gunpowder in England. His sons, John of Godstone, Surrey and Thomas of Long Ditton, Surrey, were created baronets in 1660 and 1682 respectively. Both baronetcies were extinct by 1692 and it must be presumed these arms were engraved in Ireland for a further descendent.
