  • The artist was born in Nagoya, the son of a Confucian scholar. He first learned the Shijo School manner under Kimura Unkei, later studying yamato-e under Hibino Hakkei and Kimura Kinshu. He exhibited his work at the Bunten and Teiten national exhibitions. His painting Nara Matsuri (Nara Festival) was exhibited at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco in 1915, winning a top prize there.
