Footnotes

  • The first Bugatti of this type was manufactured as a one off for Ettore Bugatti's second son Roland, designed to replicate the look of the current Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix car and its derivatives. However following exhibition at the Milan Automobile Salon so much interest was shown in the model that Bugatti made the decision to put the model into production as the Type 52 or 'Baby' aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 8 years old.

Driven by a rear mounted 12 volt battery powered electric motor giving it a maximum speed of 15-18kph, with a reverse gear operated via a switch to reverse the polarity of the motor.

Undoubtedly an expensive and exclusive item in its day the Type 52 was much in demand with the rich and famous, races being held for them on occasions at Grand Prix at suitably glamorous locations such as Monte Carlo where their big brother GP cars would be competing.
