Footnotes

  • The firm of Dennis Brothers Limited is inextricably linked with the manufacture of public service vehicles and more especially with the Fire Service. Introduced in 1925, the 30cwt of this period was one of Dennis's most successful models at a time when vehicles of this payload capacity were most popular. It was powered by Dennis’s own four-cylinder sidevalve petrol engine, which drove via a three-speed gearbox and overhead worm-driven rear axle. Initially the foot brake operated on the rear wheels only with the handbrake linked to a transmission brake. This was changed to a conventional four-wheel braked system in 1927, the original gearbox being replaced by a four-speed unit at the same time. In 1930 a forward control version with similar specification was introduced but the model ceased production at the end of 1933 with no replacement.
Restored to a high standard by Mr K Brunt, of Chertsey, Surrey in the 1980s, this 30cwt Dennis was purchased by the vendor shortly afterwards and has been stored in dry conditions since then. Its history is unknown and the current registration number is not the original, ‘RV 6000’ having been issued by Portsmouth Borough Council in 1934. The vehicle is offered with old-type Swansea V5 registration document.
