1965 Suzuki 124cc S10 ISDT Model
Registration no. EOB 831C
Engine no. S10 32947
The machine offered here is one three Suzuki motorcycles supplied via the UK importer of the day - Associated Motor Cycles - to selected members of Britains ISDT team in 1965. It is an S10, a 124cc single-cylinder two-stroke with disc valve induction and unusually for a single twin exhaust pipes. Built in unit with a four-speed gearbox, the S10 engine went into a spine-type frame complemented by a conventional set of cycle parts. The model was a new introduction for 1964. The machines intended for the ISDT team were prepared in the James competitions department, the most obvious departure from standard being the reshaping of the silencers, which were canted upwards towards the rear to improve cornering clearance. This particular machine was ridden by Ken Sedgely in the 65 event, which was held in the Isle of Man. No one who took part in that years ISDT is ever likely to forget it, as weather conditions were atrocious, even by Manx standards, the Island being lashed by the tail end of hurricane Betsy for almost the entire six days. Only 82 of the 299 starters made the finish, which makes Sedgelys survival into day four his was the last of the three Suzukis running - seem all the more creditable. Original and unrestored, the machine still bears Sedgelys competitor number 52 as painted on it by the scrutineers. There are no documents with this Lot.
