Footnotes

  • Jaguar grasped the nettle bravely in 1986 with the launch of an entirely new XJ6 - code-named XJ40. The new XJ’s outward similarity to the old one masked a host of improvements: a simpler bodyshell constructed from fewer panels, new advanced anti-corrosion technology, increased passenger and luggage space, and revised suspension giving superior ride and handling. Two new six-cylinder engines replaced the long-running XK series; these were the 3.6-litre, 24-valve, twin-cam AJ6 already seen in the XJ-S and a 2.9-litre single-cam unit. In the early 1990s, these two were replaced by AJ16 24-valve units in 3.2 and 4.0 litres capacity, both of which would find their way into the updated X300 Series introduced for 1995.
One of the final XJ6 models, the limited edition 3.2-litre Gold was produced for 1994. Generously equipped in the best Jaguar tradition, the Gold came with leather upholstery, walnut trim, remote central locking, electric windows/mirrors, stereo surround system, trip computer, dual airbags, alarm/immobiliser, ABS and alloy wheels.
Presented in excellent condition, this ‘Gold’ had covered 26,293 chauffeur-driven miles from new and was still in the hands of its original owner when it was purchased by the current vendor at Bonhams’ Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale in 2006 (Lot 553). At that time the vehicle was offered with full dealer service history at Swain Jones Jaguar of Farnham, Surrey together with numerous bills. Since acquisition by the current owner the car has been kept in professional storage and used mostly for funerals and other ceremonial purposes, the current mileage being 27,821. Finished in green with pale fawn leather interior, the latter equipped with air conditioning and cruise control, this superb modern Jaguar comes with road fund licence to September 2008, current MoT and Swansea V5 document. A leak in an air conditioning pipe is the only fault notified (estimate cost of repair £250).
