Footnotes

  • The first of countless upgrades to Porsche’s perennial 911 came in 1966, two years after production had commenced, with the introduction of the 911S. Easily distinguishable by its stylish Fuchs five-spoked alloy wheels, the ‘S’ featured a heavily revised engine producing 160bhp. Improved handling courtesy of a lengthened wheelbase arrived in 1969 and then in 1970 the 911’s air-cooled, flat six engine underwent the first of many enlargements - to 2.2 litres. The 911T (Touring) had been introduced as a new base model in 1967, initially with the 2.0-litre engine in 110bhp form before gaining the 2.2-litre unit, along with the rest of the range, in 1969. The T’s power output then was 125bhp, increasing to 130bhp with the introduction of the 2.4-litre engine for 1972. Tenacious adhesion, responsive steering, very good flexibility, superb brakes, meticulous finish and a solid, unburstable feel were just some of the virtues praised by Motor magazine in its test of a Porsche 911T in 1973. The model was discontinued that same year.
A left-hand drive model equipped with the desirable five-speed manual gearbox, this 2.2-litre 911T comes with invoices totalling almost $39,000 relating to a most extensive ‘running restoration’ undertaken in the USA between 2001 and 2006. Finished in silver with black interior, the car is presented in good condition throughout, the only deviations from factory specification notified being a sports steering wheel, wider Fuchs alloy wheels and non-standard door cards. Accompanying documentation includes Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and final (copy) State of California Certificate of Title. The vehicle is taxed/MoT’d until July 2009 and comes with Swansea V5 registration document.
