Footnotes

  • This stylish roadster was built in England between 1946 and 1948 by one H H Barrow. Its styling very reminiscent of the contemporary Allard, the Barrow’s lightweight aluminium body clothes a special ladder frame chassis incorporating Vauxhall J-Type 14hp running gear dating from the late 1930s, which was no doubt chosen for its Dubonnet torsion bar independent front suspension and reliable 1.8-litre six-cylinder sidevalve engine. The Barrow was relatively successful and took part in the MCC race meeting at Silverstone in 1949. Little else is known of its early history, although a bill of sale on file records that it was purchased from Locomotors Ltd, of Norwood, London SE23 by one G W Rugg on 31st July 1958, the car being described as ‘one used Barrow’s Special 2 Seater’ and registered ‘MPK 3’. The Barrow was subsequently exported to the USA and fully restored both mechanically and cosmetically. Imported into the UK in January 2008, the car is reported as all up and running, MoT’d and driving well.
