Footnotes

  • A firm with a long and sometimes troubled history, Marcos seemed set for a bright future when it announced the exciting TSO roadster in 2004. Produced in collaboration with motorsport engineering giant Prodrive, the Damian McTaggart-designed TSO was powered by a 5.7-litre Chevrolet V8 as used in the BRDC Championship-winning LM600 racer. According to its makers, ‘The resulting "TSO" or "Omologato" is derived from its racing blood line and as such delivers an awe inspiring 400 horsepower in a two seat roadcar that weighs just 1,090kg. These impressive power to weight figures enable it to accelerate to 60mph in just 4 seconds and to 100mph in just 9 seconds. Top speed is estimated to be over 185 mph.’
Two years later the original TSO roadster was joined by two new variants: the GTC Coupé and R/T Targa, which were premiered at London’s exclusive Salon Privé Luxury and Supercar Show on 11th July 2006. The TSO GTC was a classic competition-inspired two-seat sports coupé equipped with racing suspension, racing brakes and a rear diffuser, while the Targa-style R/T combined the roadster’s driving experience with the safety, confidence and styling of the closed coupé. Prices were £49,950 and £53,950 respectively. Both models came standard with a 420bhp all-aluminium V8 engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox, while a 462bhp performance package was listed as an option.
‘The TSO’s combination of tuned V8 power and lightweight design delivers both stunning performance and breathtaking sound in a reliable, precision engineered and affordable British supercar,’ declared Marcos Engineering’s Managing Director, Tony Stelliga. Sadly, it was not to be. In October 2007 the firm was placed in administration, high costs and lack of investment being cited as contributing to its demise.
The car we offer here is a pre-production model that was used by Marcos as a press car in Australia, where it took featured in the press day at the Clipsail 500 event in Adelaide. Bought by the vendor from the firm’s recent liquidation auction, it has never been registered and is presented in generally excellent condition.
