  • This former Vauxhall Team Cavalier Super Tourer with Ray Mallock Engineering developed and race prepared body shell was driven by works driver John Cleland to two race wins at Donington during 1994 and finished 4th overall in the British Touring Car Championship of that year. The following year, driven by Grant McLeery as a GM works car in South Africa, RML chassis number was 3rd overall in the SA Touring Car Championship. Other competition history includes 3 seasons with Pilgrim Motorport and a Class B win in 1998 Formula Saloons by driver Simon Dickinson and a 2001 season with Virgo Motorport and driver Derek Hale.
    Following vendor acquisition in 2005, the 4-door racer was the subject of a 250 hours rebuild by Paul Brown of Fives Garage, culminating in 3 outright wins in LMA Eurosaloons and the Class A win for 2006 as well as lap records at Croix-en-Ternois and Donington. 2007 saw the same combinations take the class at Pembrey and achieve top 3 in finishes in class at Oulton, Rockingham, Cadwell and Anglesey.
    The shell is now turned out in 1995 livery with aero-package from that season. The 2-litre Swindon dry-sumped engine with reverse-head and Weber Alpha management produces circa 290bhp and has only done 30 miles since a Graham Hathaway rebuild. The Xtrac gearbox, a 6-speed sequential with lsd, was last rebuilt mid-2006, the AP multi-plate clutch renewed mid-2006. Suspension is Dynamics 2-way adjustable (bump and rebound) with fully adjustable front and rear ant-roll bars. The brake discs for the AP 6-pot front callipers were renewed for 2007, rear brakes are Brembo and brake bias is adjustable from the cockpit. The Touring Car bucket seat has works driver ‘J Cleland’ embroidered upon it and the 6-point safety harness was changed in 2006. Fire system is by SPA, there are on-board jacks, the door trims are in carbon-fibre and Dymag centre-lock wheels are fitted.
    This ex-BTCC racer is still eligible for many series, such as LMA Eurosaloons and Classic Touring Cars as well as Castle Combe, NW and Welsh Saloons. Full set-up data would be made available to a buyer of this car and, by separate negotiation with the vendor, a most comprehensive spares package includes 2 Dymag alloys with slicks, 5 Dymags shod with wets, 6 further slicks and 2 more wets, various body, mechanical and electrical items, and wheel retaining springs and 70mm socket.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge what is known as a Buyer's Premium. Buyer's Premium on all Automobilia lots will adhere to Bonhams group policy:

25% up to £50,000 of hammer price,
20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,
and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.

Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalog.
