The inverted bell top surmounted by a lacquered brass handle, moulded cornice and arched brass glazed side windows with brass bezels, on a plinth base and block feet, the front door with brass-bound quarter sections and dial frame enclosing the 4.75 inch arched brass dial with strike/silent subsidiary in the arch over a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with lozenge half-hour marks and dot half-quarter marks to the minute ring, signed on a silvered plaque in the finely matted centre with mock pendulum aperture and chamfered date aperture, the twin gut (now wire) fusee movement united by five knopped pillars (central one latched) with verge escapement rack striking the hours on a bell and repeating the quarters on a nest of four bells and hammers, the backplate with a line border enclosing a fully engraved series of symmetrical foliate scrolls centred by a basket of fruit supported on a pair of mythical creatures heads 36cm (14in) high.

  • Nathaniel Seddon was sworn into the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers' as a free Brother in 1691/2. He is known to have worked until circa 1739.
