  • The inscriptions are: around the body in cursive script, al-'izz wa al-iqbal wa al-dawla wa al-salama or " Glory and Prosperity and Wealth and Well-being" and al-'izz wa al-iqbal wa al-dawla wa al-sa'ada wa...., "Glory and Prosperity and Wealth and Happiness and..."; and around the body in kufic, al-'izz al-da ['m]....wa al-nasr wa...., "Perpetual Glory ...and Victory and...".

    For a jar of similar form in the Kelekian Collection, see Arthur Lane, Early Islamic Pottery, London, 1947, p.52, pl. 42c. The Kelekian jar has a dark blue glaze and was said to have been found near Sultanabad. Another cobalt-blue jar was sold at Sotheby's (Arts of the Islamic World, 24th October 2007, lot 113).

25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
