An exceptional Black Punu mask
Gabon, the pensive and delicately carved face beneath a two-tiered inverted bucket coif. Raised scarification on the coif in the form of a star, and small keloids running down the center of the forehead with raised lines running from the eyes to the temples and the corners of the mouth to the outside of the cheeks. Remains of reddish pigment on the lips. The whole with a fine patina of age and use. Minor stabilized insect depredation that does not interfere with the sculpture.
