circa 1956
Serial number 40496, 12 gauge. Three sets of 28 inch barrels with matte, vent ribs and two ivory beads. The scroll-engraved breeches marked Gebruder Merkel Suhl and W. Glaser Waffen Zurich. Concealed release, hand-detachable sidelocks. Grey finished actions fully engraved with scrollwork and blossoms, the locks deeply chiseled with game scenes; left side with a dog and ducks, right side with a hawk stooping on a pair of pheasants. Single selective trigger. Blued and scroll-engraved triggerguard and pistolgrip cap. Checkered pistolgrip stock of black-striped walnut with hard rubber buttplate. Checkered walnut fore-end with engraved fittings en suite. Complete with green baize-lined and brass cornered oak and leather case. Together with factory letter stating gun was made for Merkel's Swiss agent M. Glaser in Zurich and delivered on July 26, 1956.
Condition: Excellent and showing little use. Barrels retain virtually all blued finish. Bright, clean bores. Buttstock showing some light scratches to left side. Case lining showing minor tears and one small relined area.
