    Liechtenstein collection.
    Purchased by the German art historian, dealer and collector, Dr Fritz Heinemann (1905-1983), who acquired the figure sometime after the Second World War. Heinemann was a renowned expert in 16th century Venetian painting and wrote the catalogue raisonne for Giovanni Bellini (edition in Italian). He had galleries in Munich and later in Switzerland.

    A similar model is in the collection of the Kunsthistoriches Museum, Vienna, and is illustrated in L. Planiscig, Venezianische Bildhauer Der Renaissance, 1921, fig. 697, p.623.
