A Campanian red-figure calyx krater
Circa 340-300 B.C.
The decoration enlivened with white and ochre, side (a) showing two women draped in chitons, pinned at the shoulders, wearing beaded necklaces and bracelets, the hair dressed in kekryphaloi with radiate stephane, the figure on the left seated on a pile of rocks, holding a situla in her right hand, offering a phiale in her left hand towards the female figure standing in front of her, holding a bunch of grapes in her right hand with a wreath in her left, a sash and two bunches of grapes in the field, a band of meander along the baseline, side (b) showing two similar draped figures flanking a central white stele tied with a sash, ovolo at the top, the figure on the left seated on a pile of rocks, a himation about her lower body, holding a branch of berried laurel in her right hand, holding the phiale in her left hand up to the stele, the figure on the left walking towards the stele, holding a bunch of grapes in her right hand, with a casket in her left, a band of rosettes along the baseline, a band of laurel beneath the rim, 19½in (49.5cm) high, repaired with some restoration

and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.
