An Etruscan bronze olpe
Circa 400 B.C.
With finely chased details consisting of undulating linked lotus buds around the base, with groups of four tongues emanating from the underside of each bud, with an encircling band of guilloche around the middle, the tapering neck with a similar inverted design of groups of three tongues emanating downwards from linked lotus buds above, an encircling band of guilloche under the rim, the lip with beading around the top and ovolo on the down-turned rim, the high arching handle riveted under the rim and decorated with a band of beading along each edge, terminating in an attachment plate in the form of a winged siren, 5½in (14cm) high, some repair and restoration
