Oscar Rabin’s work The Kingdom of England. London was acquired from the artist by the famous London collector and gallerist Eric Estorick for the first exhibition of Russian non-conformist artists, which he organised in his Grosvenor Gallery in 1964. The exhibition was held between 8 – 28 June and was a great success, constituting a turning point in the development of unofficial art in the USSR. For the first time, Western art specialists and the general public could see and learn about the works of these artists, whose careers were silenced at home. The Kingdom of England. London is one of the finest and earliest works from what is arguably the best period of Rabin's career.
