Qiao Wenan was born in Shanghai in 1944. He graduated from the Art Institute of Shanghai in 1968 and moved to the United States in 1988. His multicolor painting 'Song of Phoenix' and ink painting 'Eight Tigers' won the first and the third prizes respectively at the El Cerrito Art Exhibition in California in 1993. In 1998, he was honored one of 'the 100 Outstanding Contemporary Chinese Artists and Literati.' He was listed in the Chinese and Foreign Celebrities Dictionary in 1999 and in Yishu Zhongguo in 2006.
