1965 Triumph 649cc T120 Bonneville
Registration no. GPD 931C
Frame no. T120 DU15405
Engine no. T120 DU15405
Triumphs 650s entered the 1960s recognisably similar to the first Speed Twin of 1938. Unitary construction of engine and gearbox was already a feature of the 350 and 500 twins though, and this innovation duly appeared on the 650s in 1963. The café racers favourite since its launch in 1959, the Bonneville continue in this new form as Triumphs top-of-the-range sports model. This T120 Bonneville dates from 1965, by which time the handling problems associated with earlier versions had been sorted. The machine was purchased by the vendor from its first owner in 1983 and has been kept in storage, unused, since then. At time of acquisition it carried a tax disc dated 1978 and came with an expired MoT (1978-79) recording the mileage as 1,031 (current total 1,458) although it is not known if the speedometer is original. GPD 931C underwent refurbishment in the 1980s, which included replacing the damaged fuel tank, blast-cleaning the cylinder head, regrinding the valves, fitting new exhaust pipes and replacing the tachometer head and drive with a later type. Handlebars, control levers and a front brake air scoop are the only other notified deviations from factory specification. The machine is offered with sundry invoices, bill of sale (1983), expired MoT (1979) and Swansea V5C registration document.
